Inspirations
I am interested in intersections of human and organic spaces, movements and moments, and exploration of them through large-scale ceramic constructions. I find inspiration in botanical and geological patterns. I am a collector of natural forms with symmetry and tactile interest; these specimens sometimes become models for large explorations in clay and hand-building.
My exploration of the ceramic medium is influenced by growth systems and natural phenomena such as rivers, tree branches and geological formations. I find inspiration for my work in various media in plants, evolution, colour, biological imperfection and the natural environment. I also explore botany, ecology, and environmental issues and activism through my work.
Clay is a logical medium for my work because of its freedom; there are infinite shapes and textures and patterns to be made and remade, explored again and again. I am working on the contrast of mass, volume, and weight to detailed texture and surface, and the space my pieces inhabit in the world.I am working on refined and simplified floral forms on surfaces. I am also interested in public and interactive art, and the activation of space, particularly outdoor space, through performative art and installation.
